Mona jaan, Thank you for letting us know about the upcoming memorial in Berkeley. It would be great that we pay our tribute to Dr. Meisami in his academic home town. We look forward to attending this event. I believe everyone can decide about the IBB reunion after the memorial in Berkley. Best regards.
I am thrilled to hear of this reunion. I also want to tell you we are planning a memorial in California for my dad around the end of April. This will be in Berkeley. We can combine it if its possible or we can have more than one. We plan on honoring his professional life as well as give his family an opportunity to celebrate him. Thank you.
Hedi and I, like many of you, knew Dr. Meisami since the IBB’s golden era in the 1970s. In those days IBB graduate students had their own evaluation system for their professors. I remember in those evaluations Dr. Meisami was always ranked at the top as a sincere, caring, thoughtful, and intellectual professor. A quality he retained throughout his life to leave a truly graceful legacy behind.
In October 2012 we saw Dr. Meisami after thirty-six years. He had the same joyful personality and bright smile on his sweet face at that unforgettable gathering at the Estilais’ lovely home. It was such a blessing to see him after that many years, thanks to Ellen and Ali. We left that night with Dr. Meisami promising to contact us with a date suiting his schedule, so we could coordinate a reunion in San Diego for the IBB fans and friends. This, perhaps, was the only promise he couldn’t keep.
To honor Dr. Meisami’s wish for that reunion, we would like to suggest organizing a gathering in his memory. This was something he would have liked. We will be honored and happy to arrange and host this reunion in San Diego, if everybody agrees. Please let us know your thoughts, suggestions, comments and concerns. You may contact us at hjafari@ucsd.edu and/or nahidrazi@gmail.com
We share the deep grief and sorrow of Essie’s beloved daughters and wife, and wish them strength and patience at this time of loss.
